AutoCAD cost (and AutoCAD price) is a per-person subscription, not a one-time box. Below are public list prices for AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, how named user / Flex / education work, and what usually drives the bill at a contractor firm.

List price is not necessarily what you pay

Monthly billing costs clearly more per month than an annual plan. Autodesk typically markets roughly a one-third saving when you choose annual instead of monthly.

Named user, Flex, and education

Named user

Each seat is tied to one named person (Autodesk login). That person can usually install on more than one machine, but only use the software actively within Autodesk’s concurrent-use rules. It is no longer the old network / multi-user model for new purchases. Plan around how many people draft, not how many PCs sit in the office.

Subscription terms

• Monthly: Flexible, highest cost per month. Practical for temporary headcount.
• 1 year: The most common choice for steady drafters.
• 3 year: Locks the term (often as three annual payments). Predictable, but you are bound longer.

Renewal is the real trap: Seats that stay on the roster usually renew unless you actively turn off auto-renew or cancel at renewal in Autodesk Account (or ask your reseller if they own the contract).

Flex (tokens) for occasional use

Autodesk Flex is prepaid tokens. When a user opens a product on Flex, a daily rate is charged (typically once per 24 hours). Full AutoCAD is often about 7 tokens per day on Autodesk’s rate sheet (token price and FX change; check the current sheet).

Flex fits people who open AutoCAD rarely. If they use it weekly year-round, Flex quickly costs more than an annual seat. AutoCAD LT is not the same product on Flex; many teams combine LT subscriptions with Flex days on full AutoCAD when a job needs 3D or toolsets.

Education vs commercial

Students and educators can get free education access under Autodesk’s education program. It must not be used for commercial contractor deliverables. Trials are for testing. For production: Budget a paid commercial subscription.

1. Author seats: People who open, edit, and save DWG weekly.
2. Full AutoCAD only for people who actually use 3D or toolsets.

Public Autodesk help separates two actions that both stop the next charge while you keep access until the end of the current term:

1. Turn off auto-renew in Autodesk Account (Billing and orders → Subscriptions and contracts).
2. Cancel at renewal (records intent to stop; you can undo during the shutoff window).

Neither action is an instant “kill switch” mid-term. After expiry, Autodesk describes a shutoff path (expired → suspended → canceled). If you bought through a reseller, the partner often manages renewal, so Account toggles alone may not be enough.

• Monthly instead of annual for people who work all year.
• Full AutoCAD for everyone when LT covers the 2D job.
